David Crisp 1954-2009

David Crisp, who was murdered in Thailand in January 2009, was the first conductor of the Hadley Court Singers. He was teaching music at Lasswade High School and living in East Lothian, where he joined an affiliation of music teachers and music lovers called the East Lothian Music Workshop. When the need arose in 1978 for some carols to be organized for a Christmas event in Haddington, he put the word around and a group gathered to rehearse. After this first performance, the "choir" stayed together, grew, and eventually took its name from the house in which one of the sopranos lived.
David conducted Hadley Court Singers until 1984. As well as being a teacher and conductor, he was also a talented composer, whose music was played at the Kirking of the Scottish Parliament in 2003. A group of present and past members of the choir sang Adam Lay Ybounden, one of his last compositions, at his memorial concert in June 2009.
